I was sitting in on a meeting at my 9–5 marketing job when my colleague said an unfamiliar quote:
Me, being an excellent example of Gen Z, had no idea what this meant. I approached my colleague after the meeting so he could explain it. I then found out that the term was used as an expression of his work—always changing and evolving to meet consumer demands, no matter the success we’ve had in the past. You don’t want to stay the same for too long, or you’ll get bored or get lost in the normalcy of everyday routine.
In further research, I found that the term originates from ancient Greece. When athletes achieved a major triumph, they were given wreaths made of aromatic laurel leaves, and the phrase symbolizes a constant hunger for something greater despite past success.
I find this so true in my own journey—both in how I arrived where I am today and in the path I continue to follow as I shape my professional career, grow my graphic design studio, and find ways to get involved in the things I love and am passionate about.
I find it especially true as a business owner, learning how to evolve and find the right clients for me. I think back to all the hours I put into designing my brand—my logo, my website, flyers, social media posts—and I see now how
